Vintage Doily

I was inspired to post this because of this post over at Bella Crochet. I really enjoyed looking at her vintage doilies, and it reminded me of one I'd like to share with you. I bought this unique doily for a quarter (yes, a measly quarter!!) at a garage sale a year or two ago. To think of all the work somebody put into it, and then it being sold for twenty five cents. I snatched it up, not really knowing what I was going to do with it...but I just knew I couldn't let it lay on that garage sale table. I'm assuming it was used on a shelf of some sort...thus the straight edge. Does anybody know for sure what this type of doily was/is used for?

This picture shows what I ended up using it for. It makes a beautiful doily to place my grandkids' picture on. :D

St. Patrick's Day Tree

This white tree I bought not too long ago is the most pathetic looking thing (I ordered it online and thought it was going to be fuller than it is)....but I still like putting crocheted ornaments on it. Right now it's decorated for St. Patrick's Day. :) The patterns for the shamrocks can be found here and here.

Diamond Landscapes

This is my most recently completed project....the Diamond Landscapes doily from the Southmaid Masterpiece Doilies Book 1411. The sock yarn I used for this doily can be found here. I used the Cruise color. This yarn can be bought many places, but this is where I ordered it from. When I signed up for their newsletter, I got a free shipping code for my first order. I must say, I was pleased with their service including the speed of their service.

The yarn itself was OK to work with, I suppose, but I prefer #10 thread for my doilies. However, I wanted a pretty rainbow effect, which I have yet to get with any of the threads I have tried. So I decided to give this sock yarn a try. I bought another brand of sock yarn that I am anxious to try. It appears as it will be much softer.

Yo-Yo Doll Blanket for Adelyn

I made this yo-yo doll blanket for my granddaughter, Adelyn. The yo-yo instructions can be found in this book. The technique is a good way to make yo-yos joining as you go, but I still was not feeling the love for this technique. I'm sure it's just a personal preference. I do not enjoy having to remove my hook constantly as I am working on a project. If you are a patient person (me...not so much...that's why it is a doll size afghan) I do think the results are pretty. :)

Hmm...somehow this pic got rotated, but I'll leave it here anyway. It gives you a closer look at things. :)

Miss Adelyn all smiles with her dolly and blanket for Valentine's Day. <3

She wrapped it around another of her dolls and placed it in this chair. So sweet. :D

Granny Doily

When I saw the Granny Doily that Debi Y. made over at Hooks, Yarns, Crafts & Gardening I loved it so much I just had to make my own. I knew just what yarn I was going to use. I used the Deborah Norville Collection Serenity Garden Yarn I had bought a while back. The color is called Sea. I just love the results. Thanks, Debi Y., for the inspiration!

Salad

Also have a salad made. :) Lettuce leaves and tomato wedges from Tasty Crochet.

Salami Sandwich

I now have a salami sandwich finished for Adelyn. :) The bread for this sandwich was made using a pattern from this book. The tomato, salami and swiss cheese are from the Tasty Crochet book. I didn't do the tomato exactly as instructed in the book, but used it for my basic pattern. The lettuce is something I just crocheted...no pattern used for it.
