A Week of Receiving Blankets

During this past week I have been crocheting up a storm!  What have I been making, you ask?  Why, crochet edged receiving blankets, of course!  :)  I love making them, and they make great presents.  I will also be sewing some coordinating burp cloths one of these days.  I don’t use a pattern for these.  For round one I just do a simple sc, evenly spaced, and then for the second row I do whatever strikes my fancy.

Here’s a close-up of one of the edgings. I like the lacy look it gives on girly looking blankets.

Vintage Sheet Quilt

I've been wanting to make a quilt, for myself, using vintage squares, for a long time. I finally managed to accomplish it! :) Bought vintage sheets @ Good Will and bought the backing sheet from Etsy. I love that sheet! Rick and I had one, until last year, that we had received for a wedding present. :)

This is what I started out with last Monday. A pile of sheets and some gumption to start tearing strips of material and cut a bunch of 9 inch squares.

A nice pile of 9” squares.

On Tuesday, I had a major fight with my brand new sewing machine.  I won’t go into all the details, but suffice it to say I was verrrrry upset and frustrated with the thing.  Thankfully, on Wednesday, I was able to get it to cooperate…and this is the end result of that day.

During the course of the next few days, this is what transpired.  I am thrilled with the results!

And some close up shots of both:

And in case you’re wondering…there is no middle layer.  I am hot pretty much all of the time.  So I generally just cover up with a sheet folded in half.  Figure this will be the same thickness, but look a lot prettier!  :D

Round Granny Doily ~ 5

I finished this one recently, and I think it’s time to take a little break from the round granny doilies (but I’ll be back to them eventually). I have some other projects I would like to work on, that will also use up some of my leftover threads.  :)  These pictures are not the best…it was quite sunny today when I took them.  But the other days it was quite dreary…so I chose today to take the pics.  As always, I thank you for looking.  This one is made with each row being a different shade of variegated. I like the effect it gave the doily.  Not everybody’s taste, I know, but I *love* colorful things.  :D  I ran out of the purple variegated, but that’s OK…my mission is to use up some of this thread.

Little Doilies

I’ve also made a couple little doilies recently.  I will be making more, as I have something in mind for them.  Doing them all in shades of ecru, cream, etc.  Figure it’ll be a good way to use up the leftover neutral threads. Here are the first two.

Round Granny Doily ~ 4

So, did anybody guess that I’d be doing this one in shades of pink?!  I finished this one a couple days ago.  Started on another one last night. Using up some threads, slowly but surely. Open-mouthed smile
