Two Doilies

Yay!  After months of not making any, I finally had the chance to make not one, but two, doilies!  Woohoo!  My daughter’s family went camping this past weekend, and I house-sat for them.  While there I was able to finish these two doilies.  Blocked them when I got home, and took their pics just a short while ago.  :)

This first doily is something I just made up as I went.  I used this free flower pattern.  Instead of #10 thread, which I would normally use for the flowers, I used embroidery floss.  Love the vibrant colors!  After I made 8 of them I wondered what I should do with them.  LOL  That’s when I grabbed the white thread, I had taken with me, and proceeded to incorporate them into a doily.  I know it’s nothing fancy, but I do like the way it turned out.  :)

This second doily is called Candy Dish doily, and the free pattern can be found here.  I love this pattern.  It’s so easy to work up and lends itself to many color combinations.  And I was able to make it in a day. For this one I used my trusty white thread, and some new thread I found at Hobby Lobby while on vacation a couple weeks ago.  If I recall correctly, it is Red Heart and the color name is Passionata.  I was lazy and didn’t pin either one of these when I blocked them.  Just kind of hand pressed them into place.  ;)

  1. So beautiful, I have never made a dollie. I went to my local craft store and bought a dollie pattern book and I will try.

    1. Thanks, Vikki. :) And yes, it feels wonderful to have thread back in my hands! I actually started another doily yesterday. I just *love* making doilies, and miss it when I am making other things.

  3. Both are very pretty! On the embroidery floss, how many strands did you use in making the flowers? The new thread from Hobby Lobby is pretty! I'll have to be on the look out for it at our local store!

    1. Thank you, Linda. I used the entire 6 strands of embroidery floss for my flowers. I had fun with it, but it takes a fair amount of floss just for one flower. I don't know exactly how much because it's all wound onto floss bobbins...and I know some are partial skeins of floss.

I really had to restrain myself at HL. I don't have one close by and I love how they carry colors that other places don't carry.

  6. They are both lovely but I especially like the first one. The different colored flowers really pop out! Great job on both!

  7. Your doilies are very beautiful! I liked the first one most:)the colors are very nice :) but isn't it difficult to use six strands together while crocheting? I never tried but sometimes I get frustrated when my hook gets stuck into 3-ply or 4-ply wool while working. I will try with embroidery floss too:)

    1. Thanks, Preeti. The embroidery thread wasn't too difficult to work with, but yes there were some separation issues with it. I wouldn't want to use the embroidery floss for anything much bigger than these flowers, for that reason. I have a variety of floss brands, and it seemed to me the cheaper ones were more of a problem.
