Yarn Ball Winder

After reading this post over at Debi’s blog, I now have it in my head that I need (OK, want, but still…) a yarn ball winder.  I did an online search, and it turns out there are a lot of winders out there.

I love how Debi uses hers to make balls of her leftover yarns.  I think I would love doing that!

So I’m wondering…do you use a yarn ball winder, and if so which one is it and are you happy with it?  Thanks for all your input. :D

Pumpkin Hairclip

Remember the pumpkin applique from this blog post? Here it is featured on my granddaughter’s hairclip. :) It was hard to get a decent picture of her this particular day…she was quite busy with other things, as 2 yr. olds often are. :D

As you can see, she was all wrapped up in one of Gramma Rita’s crocheted blankets…literally!  :D

What I’m Working on Right Now

I was dog-sitting at my daughter’s place this past weekend while she and her family went camping.  I wanted a project to work on that didn’t take tons of concentration…just a nice, relaxing pattern.  This 12 point round ripple pattern fit that criteria. Usually I like to work with colorful yarns, but in this case I have some Bernat camo yarn here that needed to be turned into an afghan.  I’m doing 5 rows camo, one row off-white. This picture was taken yest. afternoon and I have put on a few more rows since then. :)

One for the Black and Gold!

My daughter and her family are big Steelers fans, and she mentioned recently that I should make a Steelers colored doily for her.  I had thought so myself, but never made one.  Since I knew she wanted one I got started on it right away.  This is the result. :)  I used this pattern. I love it for multi-colored doilies because it is so easy to do color changes when using this pattern.

Perhaps this is a lucky doily as the Steelers did win today. :D

Here are a couple other doilies I’ve made using this same pattern. I know I have done others, too, but can’t find pics of them right now.

This first one is done in a sage green and brown.

Thrift Store Find

Went to the Goodwill store today, and I found this!  :D It isn’t often I find crochet related items at my Goodwill store. There was actually more there than what I bought…but I had to think realistically as to what I would be able to use. Pretty sure the thread is already old, so I didn’t see much sense in buying so much that I wouldn’t get a chance to use it and would end up donating it once again. ;) I’ve never used the Mary Maxim Heritage thread before, so am anxious to see how it works up. There are actually two colors of blue there..the two to the right are powder blue, and the one under the green is aqua.  They look almost the same in the picture.

Appliques

I purchased a bunch of patterns, yesterday, from Ever Laughter on Etsy. Last night I made a few of the appliques with thread, and today I used some Simply Soft yarn.  Here are the ones I made using the yarn. :) They’re cute, but I think I’d like to use some yarn other than the Simply Soft.  It seems too “fuzzy” to me. I’d also like to use beads for the eyes, but I need to buy some before I can do that.  So, in the meantime, it’s black yarn for the eyes. ;)

Denim and Daisies

The pattern for these doilies can be found in the August 2011 issue of Crochet World.  I did the first one in the “denim and daisies” colors, and while making it I thought that a more colorful version might be nice, too.  So I finished the first one and immediately got started on the second one…while the pattern was still fresh in my mind.

Spiral Simplicity Doily

This colorful doily is my most recent creation.  It was a quick and easy doily to make, and it helped use up some leftover threads. :)  The pattern can be found here.

Just Peachy

I found this peach pattern at Crafty Anna’s blog. I’m not thrilled with the peach I made, but it’s no fault of Anna’s.  Her pattern is fine. I just can’t seem to get the peach in the shape that I want it. Regardless, I am sure Adelyn (and Clayton, too!) will have fun playing with it.  And they probably won’t critique its shape the way I am. LOL
